A Wheel, Not a Road

History, a wheel turning
Not a road leading,
Each dent repeating,
Small excursions leading
Away from genocide
To non-toxic pesticide.
Eventual return, come round,
Another ride in rhetoric pride
For democracy spun-dried.
Advancements in technology
Never change mortals inside.
Hopeless leaders, a piper-pied.
Flecks of gold off each revolution,
Lovers of humanity, hands tied,
Stand with truth, bona fide.
A divergence through tangents
To cease, when sun has died
And end these spoils, we chide
Small excursions leading,
Each dent repeating,
Not a road leading,
History, a wheel turning.

An interesting and visible creation you have maintained within this.

Forever lost without reason our minds are our own

Excellent piece! Love the way you brought it back round on itself. 😀

  3. Bastet says:

Very very good! You’ve described samsara so very well, the constant wheel turning useless repetition of history.

  4. tjtherien says:

And so the wheel goes round… Well said Shain.

  5. SSMatthews says:

Excellent commentary! We all stand before it and either step aside, be turned beneath that wheel or rise above. Feeling a bit weightless myself at the moment!

    So well written! Bravo~

We tend to think of time and history as linear rather than cyclical, while your verse evokes for me a sense of the turning of cogs and gears. Seeing history in this way reminds us of the necessity to learn from the last turn of the wheel before it repeats itself. Magnificent poem, Shainbird.

The leaders of this generation live these ’rounds’ without any projection to a collective body of humanity whose history should be down the straight and narrow. As there are incontrollable factors that do send us down the same routes, it is the responses and ulterior motives that keep us in the cycle. Thank you Jeff.
